Double the Joy, Double the Wonder

Discovering you’re expecting twins is a moment filled with awe, excitement, and a whole new set of questions. From the very first ultrasound, the sight of two tiny heartbeats flickering on the screen is something no parent forgets.

At Baby Fairytale, we know just how magical that first glimpse can be—especially when it’s multiplied. That’s why we created this guide to help you understand how twins develop together in the womb, and how you can capture each milestone through our extended ultrasound sessions.

Identical or Fraternal? The Basics of Twin Types

The first big question for many parents of multiples is: “Are they identical or fraternal?”

  • Identical twins come from a single fertilized egg that splits in two. They share the same DNA and often look remarkably alike.
  • Fraternal twins come from two separate eggs fertilized by two different sperm. They’re genetically unique, just like any other siblings.

Ultrasounds can offer clues early on, especially when performed between 8 to 13 weeks with our Early Pregnancy Ultrasound or a Sneak Peek DNA Test. These early glimpses help determine whether babies share a placenta or amniotic sac; key details for your care and bonding journey.

Life in the Womb: A Shared Space

As your babies grow, their development depends on how they’re “rooming” together:

  • Separate sacs and placentas mean each baby has their own cozy space.
  • Shared sacs or placentas mean closer quarters—and sometimes more bonding moments caught on ultrasound.

Some twins are so close that they begin interacting with each other long before birth. Studies have shown twins touching, turning toward one another, and even mimicking movement, all while still in the womb. Our Watch Me Grow! and Meet Your Baby! sessions are perfect for capturing these subtle signs of connection as your pregnancy progresses.

Capturing the Connection: Twin Ultrasounds

When it comes to ultrasound imaging for multiples, we always recommend extended sessions. Why?

  • More time allows us to position both babies for the clearest views.
  • You’ll have extra keepsake images and videos. One for each baby (and then some!).
  • HDLive technology lets you witness their shared moments in stunning detail.

Parents expecting multiples often book our Meet Your Baby! (27+ Weeks) Royal session, which includes up to 50 minutes of imaging, full video recordings, and enough time to meet both little stars in depth. For families who want to track development more closely, A Month of Magic allows unlimited visits—ideal for checking in on both babies throughout a key stretch of pregnancy.

Double the Heartbeats, Double the Memories

There’s something uniquely emotional about watching your babies develop together. From the first shared kick to that moment they turn toward each other on screen, you’re witnessing a lifelong connection already in bloom.

Whether you're capturing twin giggles or twin yawns, our extended ultrasound experiences help preserve those moments forever with clarity, care, and keepsakes that tell your story beautifully.
